He Never Miss Their Anniversary (After James L. Dickey) Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

He Never Miss Their Anniversary (After James L. Dickey)

Rating: 5.0

She sits alone at the dinner table
And stares across to an empty chair
Wondering if he will appear
It's their anniversary
A night to remember a kiss, a touch
As the veil was lifted to see him smile
With a twinkle in his blue eyes
She made his favorite meal
Southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes
A side order of fiddlesticks
And a baske of cornbread dipping with butter
She eats in silence and then, sighs
As she looks over and sees him sitting there
Enjoying his meal
He seems so real, enough to hold him once more
As she stretch out her hand, he fades away
Then she goes to phonograph and puts their wedding song
His hand slips into hers, and once again they waltz
As sh she dreamsof their first kiss
