Heart Still Beats; Eyes Still See Poem by Bill Galvin

Heart Still Beats; Eyes Still See

Heart still beats;
Eyes still see;
But nothing really
Means that much to me.

I smile hello;
Carry light conversation;
But, it always comes down
To that same realization…

My days are so dark,
My nights are now cold;
And I’m working to fill
A bottomless hole.

Now that you’ve left,
Now that you’ve gone;
I’m looking for purpose,
Some good reason to move on.

I place one boot
In front of the other,
And maintain motion forward,
Tho the trail can be not worth a bother.

And people are nice;
Everyone around me is fine;
It is I who have trouble
Staying in tune and keeping time.

It just seems we’re like silhouettes
Against a twilight sky;
Destined to fade Into nothingness;
To disappear; then, to die.

A melancholy piece. Death of a partner? You have skilfully woven your poem in so expertly a style...

Sorry I have not replied sooner, Hannington... thanks so much for the compliment... yes, death of a soulmate.
