Hitchhiker Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Hitchhiker

The look in her eyes became hesitant as she gleamed into his, the eyes she's looked into so many times,
His lips beckoned to hers,
She leaned back from his kiss,
A sudden fear struck both of them,
Their souls traveled two different roads,
Misunderstood to the lakes their hearts knew as love,
Defined as two different meanings that lead to the same path,
She thought as in wait, as things grew intense, the meeting of bodies in way that replaced the sun, emotionally, physically,
Starting a new as the wick was far from extinguished,
He saw things in a different light,
Why pause on something that felt so right,
Did she find someone new, did she ever feel the way she depicted in times she smiled endlessly,
There wasn't a reason to stop the winds that blew the heat across the desert they both saught in one another,
A fragil habit, she needed more,
She never knew him,
She extended her hand, seeking reassurence,
She no longer knew if he was what she truly desired,
He became estrange,
A stranger in a place he desired to call home,
Dumbfounded by such request,
To bypass pleasure which he found in her, the joy of her laugh,
The comfort her voice brought,
To act as nothing happened between the two was ludacris,
In her eyes she saw it as right,
Though she appreciated the warm dives in the lake of his eyes while he saw the well dried up,
A dirt road that lead back to the highway he once came before she pulled over to thumb that singaled deep need,
She grown accustom to the life she knew before him,
Unsure how to give her heart,
Afraid of something she's waited for, for so long,
He became lost, forlorn as this new feeling soon became unexcusable,
No longer enjoyable as he started back smoking heavily,
He felt she keep him around for reasons quite unclear,
Another lover, perhaps someone she couldn't quite comprehend,
Her face was still imprinted on the shoulder of his arm,
The margin of miles traveled began to grow distant as he saught the highway else where,
Extending his thumb,
Praying for safe voyage
