How Do You Define A "Dorothy"? Poem by Eugene Levich

How Do You Define A "Dorothy"?

Rating: 5.0

Oxford English Dictionary:
"Dorothy" (noun, proper and/or eponymous) ,
"A woman of unsurpassed loveliness"

Description:
Slender, pleasing lines;
Appears taller than her true height
Remarkably graceful, light of foot
Usually aged above thirty—
A rose opened to its fullest
And most beautiful—
Must have large, expressive eyes
Wistful smile
Air of intelligence, culture, refinement, sophistication:
Your heart skips a beat when you see one
That's how you know

Example:
"I saw a ‘Dorothy' yesterday—first one in a decade—
She disappeared
Into the crowd before I could even blink..."

I, too, once saw such a woman—decades ago
Sat next to me on a train—
Never been the same since!
Her name happened to be Dorothy
Just a coincidence?

Eugene, the world needs more mystery and romance and loveliness in it- -perhaps your poem will walk through people's lives and set them to yearning for another glimpse and yet another of these attributes that abounded in Lauren Bacall's eyes and Ginger Roger's long-legged walk and the smoky voice of a thousand black-and-white movies of so long ago.. 10's all over the place and a place on my Fav poem list. Thank you for sharing this.
