Hurry Up Please Poem by Palitha Ranatunge

Hurry Up Please

HURRY UP PLEASE!

Death at the door step fear not how mighty he is.
He is an old friend of you in case you dislike the word - friend
I say an old acquaintance. Since when? You might inquire
Well since your birth. From the moment of your first cry
He has been available. Now no fear for Ebola, Sars or Covid 19
You have been living with deadlier than these
Cholera, Malaria and Dengue... may be few more.
Well, why not, HIV!

Please die once only, never have thousand deaths before
He physically comes and kisses your forehead with his lovely lips.
I can see yonder, over the window a green, lavish vegetation
Watching me waving their vivid foliage.Bye, Bye, my friend!
Look at the pair of tiny pale birds embracing each other
Swaying to and fro with the soft gale. Sun light dances with its
Myriads of legs over the tree tops. Well, I must confess
I have lived longer than all these vegetation and birds.
I am not sad or jealous, let them enjoy under the same Sun.
I have long gone. It's long journey. I am so tired.
Why fear, I shut my eyes and listen to all around me.
I can hear my heart beats without hesitation,
All palpitations are ready to halt.
Casket lay at the caretaker's lounge; flowers are at the florist's
Ample tears are ready to flow; thousand sighs are about to be blown
Procession is prohibited; flowers and tears are banded.
Crematorium has scheduled its time. HURRY UP PLEASE!
