I Am But Glass Poem by Rhonda Baker

I Am But Glass

Like the sand trod beneath peoples feet
I'm taken for granted when first we meet
Can you really judge one at first glance
See their mind, their spirit, their inner dance
covered with dust, dull and slight
Like glass than can, you see my light
In the darkness is my brilliance known
Only with the proper light will my worth be shown
Fragile and delicate traveling through time
With gentleness and care, I live on in a rhyme
We all break; for life is careless and rough
But mended with the proper glue, we remain strong enough
Through hellish times feeling almost burned alive
We raise again, like the Phoenix we strive
Like glass, we are shaped by all that touches us
Some without knowing they've made such a fuss
Like a vessel, we can be filled with rocks or gold
Until someone takes the time to really see us, no one knows what we hold
