I Am Glad Poem by Hannah Davies

I Am Glad

I am glad to be me
Now I can finally see.
No longer a kid
Can't be blamed for what they did.

I am glad there is no more violence
That I don't have to suffer in silence.
I have the ability to use my voice
I can make my own choice.

I am glad to be breathing
Can't believe I considered leaving.
I have good friends around
To help keep me safe and sound.

I am glad to be healthy
That the illness didn't beat me.
A bright future awaits
As I open up the gates.

I am glad I have my Dad
To cheer me up when I'm sad.
That I still have contact with my brothers
That they didn't abandon me unlike Mother.

I am glad I survived
And that hope hasn't completely died.
I am as happy as can be
Most of all I'm glad to be me.
