I Commit Life Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

I Commit Life

Written by: Wafaa Karim

Translated from Arabic by: Freeyad Ibrahim

*****
I don't cry when I want to cry
I laugh and leave the poem
to break down from sadness
Between the silence and the noise of silence
I arrange my day
And prepare the equipment of patience
For my tomorrow
*
I don't go with time
when time leaves me
I have eyes
at the bottom of time
that pulls me
to a prolonged time
of sorrow and grief

**

I don't sleep when I want to sleep
Insomnia takes my features every night
And it messes with them
And in the morning
I don't recognize my face
in the mirrors

***

I don't die when I want to die
I commit life
And commit suicide every day
