I Decided Poem by Jeri Martindale

I Decided

I let go, I stared out into the darkness. I closed my eyes and that is when it all began. The day I decided not to listen to myself.

Step by step I slowly walked away. I opened my eyes and that is when the sun finally came out. The day I decided not to trust myself anymore

Swaying, smiling, I looked out in front of me. I saw life in fast forward all around me. The day I decided not to hold on to anything again.

Laying on my pillow, I hear the silence filling my room, making it quiet no more. The day I decided to listen to the nothing floating about.

Opening my sleepy eyes. I feel no pressure, nothing sneaking up to take me out.
The day I decided my destiny would seek me, not the other way around.
