I Don't Understand Poem by Tex T Sarnie

I Don't Understand

What do you mean I take you for granted,
and I don't care anymore?
Wasn't it just yesterday that I told you that I love you?
Or maybe it was the day before.

Of course, I care, and love you.
I eat your cooking and sleep with you?
I take you to the pub on darts night,
and buy you a glass of shandy or two?

I allow you to do my laundry?
Even my mother struggled with that.
You've mastered the art of perfect ironing,
with no creases and collars that stay flat.

To be honest, I'm shocked that you doubt me,
I thought that I was your ideal man.
What more can I do to make you happy?
Would you like a new frying pan?

Would a new push lawnmower be the answer?
Or one of those new spinning washing machines?
Would you like to repaint and decorate the house,
in my favourite shades of cream?

Why are you shaking your head in disbelief?
I'm trying really hard to please and satisfy you.
Is it possibly another baby that you want?
Well, I don't know, what else I can do?

What do you mean that you're leaving me
and I fail to grasp the situation?
I think you're living in cloud cuckoo land,
and you've filled me with consternation.

Am I really so horrible, useless, and thoughtless?
And do you honestly think that I don't care?
I'll give your words a lot of thought, if you'll stay.
What do you mean I can't give what isn't there?
