I Hope There's Cake Poem by Holly Jamestone

I Hope There's Cake

‘Twas The Diet Before Christmas
And all through the ‘hood
Were echoes within me
That I should be good

But calories everywhere
Whole eggs in yolk
Beckoned and taunted me
Till my will broke

“Do you want fries with that”
Once was “Good Day”
Fruitcake and candy canes
All had their way

When inside a restaurant
I heard pitter-patter
The wait staff in front of me
Seemed to grow fatter

I felt myself floating
And to my dismay
My slices of cream pie
Were sailing away

My belly was buoyant
I rose toward the moon
A human blimp’s silhouette
Gone far too soon

Those goodies and cheeses
And holiday fare
Sent me to Heaven

I HOPE THERE’S CAKE

there
