I March For Peace Poem by Jim Yerman

I March For Peace

When I was young I marched for peace…against oppression and tyranny.
Today I march for humanity….against hate and bigotry.

Which means:

I march for women, for science…for the environment,
I march for for liberty…
I march for black lives, for policemen…for the rights of LGTB.

But when I stop to think about it…when I step outside my door
no matter what I call it……it's peace I'm marching for.

Peace has many faces..but they all mean the same thing.
Peace is love and understanding…it's of what the angels sing.

Peace is a smile, it is laughter…it's kindness…it's charity.
It's acceptance, tolerance, forgiveness…
peace is family.

When I marched for peace when I was young. …
I marched to show the way…
I never thought I'd still be marching…now that I'm old and gray.

But I will continue to march for peace…with all my sisters and my brothers…
I'll march until the world remembers…we belong to one another.

Yes, I will march with anyone… to make our voices known…
and when there's no-one left to march with me…
then I will march alone!
