I Once Wished... Poem by Jim Yerman

I Once Wished...

Rating: 3.8

I once wished I could be a star...
but that wish was over soon
"Why be a star? " I contemplated.
"When I can be the moon? "

But the moon spends all her time in darkness
That wouldn't be very much fun
"I no longer want to be the moon! ", I announced
"I would rather be the sun! "

But the sun is bright and hot all the time...
and no air conditioning is allowed
"I no longer want to be the sun! " I claimed.
"I prefer be a cloud."

But clouds do not control their flight
as they soar across the sky
‘I wonder if', I thought to myself,
‘That's the reason why clouds cry...'

As I stood their wishing I could be
the wind, the flowers, the sea
I realized none of these phenomena
could wish that they were me.

‘I must be pretty special', I thought
‘To have dreams and fantasy.'
So I made one final wish that night
To continue being me.
