I Pray (Italian Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

I Pray (Italian Sonnet)

I pray for the barbaric war to end
where Russian media calls it a world war.
America do the necessary weapons ignore,
does that that it remains local pretend,

do not the jets and long range weapons send
and the innocent civilian people suffer more:
men, women and children that do each adore,
while Russia tries Europe to its will to bend.

Havoc at the hands of rapists does come,
and the almost endless exploding shells,
I pray for some tranquillity and peace,
while all of the war-crimes are past gruesome
and the news of a madman in Russia tells
that wishes the terror never to cease.
