I Shall Lower The Golden Words To Half Mast Poem by Mary Angela Douglas

I Shall Lower The Golden Words To Half Mast

I shall lower the golden words to half mast

When song shall no longer honored be

Among the felicities

I shall weep into the muddied streams of language

Made impoverished

By those who seem to wish It all away

All the lyric poets had to say

The flowering of such feeling

Their tears

at the mauve trees stirring

In such an abbreviated morning

Now that the shearers have come

And I with a covert heart wondering

Why should the world so widowed be

The orchards of such rich thought be razed;

And all amazement stilled.
