I Thought I Was Invincible Poem by Nii Odoom Annoh

I thought I was invincible but I was wrong!
My well-guarded impenetrable fortress
Has been infiltrated, my security system compromised.
My firewall could not keep this Trojan horse out.
I didn’t see this coming.
I never dreamt about this happening.
I never envisage any sort of attack, let alone from you.

Many have tried but none could even get past the first gate.
But you have surmounted all 29 gates.
I brooded over it trying to make sense of all this for months,
But this is not a subject I know much about.
So I decided to give up and give it a go.

I just realized I have been waiting for you;
And I will wait like the watchman waits for the morning.
You are the one! You fought for us, as I wallow in dreariness.
You are indeed a warrior

I neither socialized nor dated carbon copies of you;
Not even in the loneliest of days to cure my boredom.
I have always been yours And so I will wait for you!

I may not say romantic words like
'You make me whole' because you don't.
In Christ I have been made whole.
I may not love you the way you would want to,
But I love you with all my heart;
I love you the best way I know how to.

I have no idea what beauty is
But I must confess you are beautiful.
I never had the model of an ideal partner
But you have set the standard.

To the depth of my soul I vow to be with you at all times.
I can’t promise to heal your wounded heart; only Christ can heal.
But I vow to breathe my last with you in my heart.
I vow to log out of this world with your name engraved on my heart.
I will love you till love exists no more.
