I Understand The Rules Poem by Uriah Hamilton

I Understand The Rules

Standing in the midnight autumn calm
in an empty space where a month ago
summer roses swayed like dancers in a drunken breeze,
I can still hear your voice mingled in the silence of my heart beat.

I want the reflection of the moon on a crystal lake
to be your naked body beckoning mine,
I want to sleep in a sacred place with perfume
wafting softly from your yellow cotton dress
as it hangs on a chair beside an opened window.

You never had intentions to remain here
like the visionary wife of my dreams,
you were always honest and clear whenever we kissed
that the union of our souls would be briefer
than the breaths we shared in ecstasy
but that doesn’t mean one of us was not in love.
