I Want Cake! Poem by Paula Glynn

Birthday cake, party cake,
Wedding cake: in fact any cake will do,
I love that sweet soft butter and sugar sponge,
It can be a Victoria cake, a chocolate cake,
It can be a small cake, it can be a large cake,
It can have icing, it can have butter cream,
It can have a jam filling and cream on top,
It can be covered with strawberries or raspberries,
The cake can have a cherry on top,
Or just chocolate flakes or candy sprinkles.
There're so many varieties available,
And I love lemon drizzle and carrot cakes,
Whether the cake is homemade or shop bought,
Is irrelevant to me, all that matters is it tastes good,
For cake is more than a happy birthday:
It is a celebration of graduations, anniversaries,
Bank Holidays, summer days, trips away,
And each bite tastes like heaven,
Everyone enjoying their cake,
For the party has begun,
My tastebuds looking for a slice of cake,
For year round fun.
