I Will Not Call You By Your Name Poem by Liza Sud

I Will Not Call You By Your Name

Rating: 5.0

I will not call you by your name
because it means to seperate.
I will write simply D-L,
cause you're more than just man and friend.

I was beaten from 3 sides:
dreams, reality, Christianity.
I felt joyful, depressed, sad,
Because God came and was like stabbing me.

Torah's written without pause,
just the flow of letters-codes.
And now I understand why
they leave nameless their endless G-d.

I will write you just D-L.
And I never liked stony words,
so unchangable, unlike notes
that are playing, creating worlds.

***

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Daniel Brick 28 August 2016

This poem is 16 lines but it contains so much it overflows with meaning. I'm going to take a copy with me and re-read it throughout Sunday. What a dramatic title/first line: and it points to a deep rapport between us, a soul-level understanding which your poem makes so clear. And that startling image of yourself: I WAS BEATEN FROM THREE SIDES. This is a remarkable self-insight, Elizaveta. All of your doubt and worries of the past several months are resolved in this awareness. You opened a window into your soul and found the Truth. It's not a puzzle or a conundrum, it reveals an inner conflict with three characters - dreams, reality, Christianity. Now there can be a truce, Christianity will prevail but it will not play the victor: it will be magnanimous to the other two. In different proportions all three = Liza. Your poem also shows you grasp the interplay between divine and human, which ultimately is never sad, dour and tragic but affirming, joyous and sweet. Taste and see how sweet the Lord is, sings the Psalmist. That's the creative music you hear at the end of the poem - music not words - which is the same thing that happens at the end of my O AND E poem. What a happy coincidence!
