I wish to leave the world
By its natural door;
In my tomb of green leaves
They are to carry me to die.
Do not put me in the dark
To die like a traitor;
I am good, and like a good thing
I will die with my face to the sun
A good man/s wish of death is well said in a simple way by the Poet! Nice for sharing!
GREAT WISHING; NO ONE IS ETERNAL; EVERYONE HAS TO LEAVE THIS WORLD; BUT POETIC LEAVING WILL BE FOR GOOD; BECAUSE POET CAME TO THIS WORLD FOR THE GOOD AND EVERYTHING OF POET HERE EXISTED ON THIS EARTH AS GOOD; SO THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD WILL GREET THE POET FOREVER LEAVING BY THE GOOD ENVIRONMENT///
Since his biography states he was a revolutionary, I think he is saying his wish is to not die " in the dark...like a traitor" (he is using a coffin image) , but instead " to die with my face to the sun" (revealed and open instead of silenced and hidden. The meaning of the images fits with his biography which states he believed in the free expression of ideas.
Preparing for death! ! With a man's request. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
Lovely poem. A man's desire to remain in green and fresh always. Loved it.
