I'm An American Poem by Randy McClave

I'm An American

I'm an American and I will tell you why
For this once great country I would serve and die,
And for this country I'd walk through the mud
For my country I'd give my blood.
I believe in the American way
For it and its people I constantly do pray,
We support and we want freedom for one and all
And for help in any format we are always proudly on call.

I am an American both proud and true
I fly only the colors of the red, white and blue,
No other colors will I fly on a flag
Of no other colors will I patriotically brag.
I support no person flying the stars and bars
Either on their property or on their cars,
They stand for slavery and racism as their glory
They stand for hate and violence as their story.

I am an American as my forefathers were
Lady liberty they loved and did serve,
And whenever she needed them to serve and fight
They gave her their soul, and all their might.
For their country and for its people I would defend
I would fight and protect it to the very end,
Whether day or night whenever democracy ever did call
Americans would be their standing, not allowing democracy to fall.

I am an American when I wake up every morning
I am an American when from violence and hate I am mourning,
When I hear others supporting a dictator
I hope to myself this doesn't become my America later.
I support no person not supporting the constitution
I know that type of person has no solution,
And if they stand against our freedom and democracy
They should not be allowed in this land of the free.
