In Nobler Company Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

In Nobler Company

Rating: 5.0

I was at war with myself
For I could not play chess
And whenever I played the game
With my more intelligent brother
I lost.

I found solace in my
New invention
'Chess is violence.'
'Losers' philosophy',
He continued his offensive.

His enthusiasm
Knew no bounds
Buoyed by his
winning spree.

He enticed me
into the game
Again and again
With enchanting baits
Like a tasty chocolate bar.
In the ensuing war
I lost many a kingdom
Which I never had.
I was at war
With myself.

The whole scene
Changed for ever
When I read about
Albert Einstein.

Internationalism
Was what he fostered
Was a pacifist to the core
And disliked playing chess
For he abhorred conflict.

I could now take on
my brother intelligent
(No, not in a chess game)
For I am in nobler company.

One can achieve peace, only if you go beyond competitive ventures. Liked this poem Unnikrishnan.

Peace is not staying away from the arena or battlefield. It is definitely a state of mind

When you sit to play chess, you have entered an arena of war. It is either win or lose. It is a competition.
