In The Shadow Of Your Absence Poem by Yousif Ibrahim Abubaker Abdalla

In The Shadow Of Your Absence

As this day turns once more, four turning circles of the earth
have slipped by since you left our lives.
Illness dimmed your gentle glow, and our home fell into a hush that time has yet to mend.
You were my cherished sister,
the third star in my life's sky kind in spirit, beautiful in heart.
In the cozy realm of the kitchen, you stood like a nurturing mother, preparing meals infused with love.
Your dishes were always a delight, but even sweeter was the affection that flowed from your hands.
You never burdened me,
your older brother; your respect was quiet, your kindness as deep as still waters.
Now, memories wander through the spaces
where your laughter once echoed.
The kitchen holds your spirit,
and so does my heart.
O sister, though the years have rolled on and the world has continued its pace, your gentle love lingers a soft, eternal flame in the sanctuary of remembrance.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM: The poem was written on Monday,9th March 2026. This poem is a remembrance of my beloved sister, who passed away four years ago after a time of illness. She was not only my sister but a guiding presence in our home gentle, kind, and nurturing, like a mother in the kitchen, turning simple meals into acts of love. Through this elegy, I wanted to honor her memory, the quiet strength of her spirit, and the love she gave so freely. The metaphor of "four turning circles of the earth" reflects the passage of time, yet how her presence and care remain forever alive in my heart. This is a tribute to her kindness, her beauty, and the enduring bond that death cannot erase.
