Infidelity Poem by SJ. Sharkey

Infidelity

Pull back the sleeve
And reveal the weakened tissue
Pages of scarring shine white against tan
Separated from heart but not from head
A lover’s memory etched onto cells
Put pen to paper and scribble your signature
The faded autograph of your infatuation combined
Cross the t and scratch the surface
Dot the i and break the skin
Then from the pad draw red ink to
Let handwriting flow from punctured love
See the quill become a leech to draw out the poison
And carve goodbye by way of a sonnet
To burn your name onto wandering eyes
Forgiveness is a virtue
That cries alone at night
But freedom comforts quickly
So lay down your pen
Relinquish heart-felt longing
Seal tonight with a kiss as
You write love on her arm
