Insomnia Poem by Lee Boueri

Insomnia

Rating: 5.0

Insomnia.

In the hollows of the night
I lay with my elusive sleep
Partners in the dark
Listening to the world
whispering in the silence
A distant train,
A neighbours cat
Falling rain
.
We peer into In the darkness,
a blanket of black
It's tempting to walk through
to the recess of the mind
Where dusty roads unfurl,
another day
another time
another place
.
There are days there
we only see at night
Familiar paths once trodden
Laden with mistakes
A better father
A better son
A better friend
Doors we shouldn't open
Stairs we shouldn't climb
Things We've left unsaid
to people we've left behind
.
Its not safe to go there
I'll only risk a peek
I'll wait for better days
to journey down these paths
To creak the hinges of the past
and tempt seductive pain
.
As the dawn approaches
those paths begin to fade
My partner leaves
I'm safe again
in the morning's glaring haze

You are right about insomnia, which has often affected me, even all night awake. We do have different thoughts at night-you are right.'The morning's glaring haze'- a fine, true image.
