fearless but with no rider
mint Pegasus mounts no sky
but lies encased in a jewelbox light
a brooch with a dreamy eye
my sister has one just like it
we call them the Pegasus twins
inside to ourselves where the mint dreams dwell
and Spring must always begin
in the ice that melts with the snowcrust
in April a tentative while
our two mint horses go galloping
and all we can do is smile.
