Jigsaw Puzzle Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Jigsaw Puzzle

It may take the expertise,
Of one commissioned...
To take pieces of a jigsaw puzzle,
That slowly depicts a picture clear...
Each step that leads,
From one disaster to another followed.
Ignored yet allowed to occur.

And hopefully before and not after,
The expertise of this commissioned genius...
Completes the jigsaw puzzle,
Those looking on and curiously begin to see...
Each step connects and leads,
From one disaster to another followed.
Blindly ignored to allow.
Depicts them as willing participants.

"Hey!
Wait a minute.
I recognize many of those faces.
And...
Hey!
There we are!
That's us."

-Wow.
Sure enough.
You're right.
I wonder what the message is? -

"Hmmm...
This is a different way,
To market a movie being made."

-And...
We're gonna be in it too.
I hope that's true.-

"Me too.
I can't wait to see,
How the ending turns out.
It looks like it may be,
One of those 'thrillers'."

-Well...
I'm going to ask.
I want to audition.
Maybe I'll get a speaking role.
You know...
Be a 'star'.-

"Why is that jigsaw puzzle person,
Shaking his head.
Looking at us as if we stupid? "
