John Lennon An Ash Tray And Me Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

John Lennon An Ash Tray And Me

Rating: 4.5

Let's sit down and break some bread, pass the wine and ash tray.
Some sweet jazz, Oscar Peterson, Fats Waller and lady Holiday
A table for elbows to lean on as the smoke circles the light
A table as round as his glasses, we will spend this amazing night

Let us speak of fame
The ego game, the human condition, the captivating culture.
Let us speak of music
The message, the mood, the timeless Magical Mystery Tour
Let us speak of love
The possibilities, the mystic, the fire, real and ever-lasting
Let us speak of humor
Sarcastic, biting, unbridled, brilliant, politically incorrect
Let us speak of hope
Honesty, solutions, perspectives, a recipe for self reliance
Let us speak of fools
Misguided, short-sighted, pedestrian, the mob mentality rules
Let us speak of truth
Rare, un-mined, elusive, drowned out by this cultural noise
Let us speak of revolution
Childish, selfish, hypocritical, words lacking imagination
Let us speak of cowards
Unyielding, insecure, petty, censuring grandstanding beings

What a liberating adventure that would be to delve into our condition
How refeshing to indulge the philosophy of an independent original mind
In this world immersed in the predictable banter of so-called solutions
I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to spend one night in time.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I hear this word 'revolution' thrown about these days. I have to smile when I think of these gaping mouths.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the song Revolution by the Beatles- -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You'd better free your mind instead
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John Lennon was no liberal or conservative he was that rarest of
the rare. An independent thinker.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

He was and will always be a Libran legend. The mind of the man where everything had to be fair and balanced, free and justified. Brilliance in a very humble human being. A reminder to us all to live in peace and with love.

This is absolutely wonderful poem. I feel like meeting the man who was an icon of freedom. A befitting tribute to the man that captures the aura of an era that was synonymous with rebellion, liberation, intellectualism. Enjoyed thoroughly.
