John's Ambition Poem by Tim Labbe

John's Ambition

They all said
He lacked ambition.
And he agreed.
Unmoved by the
Set demands
Which society
Intended for
Him to fulfill.

Life itself, was
Enough for him.
And all he wanted
To do was live.
Meat started to
Taste Rancid. They
Say Cancer does
That to you.

The doctors gave
Him two weeks. He
Went a week earlier
Than expected.
Ironically, all of
His life he had
No expectations.
Only hope. Hope
To live just one
More day. Just
To have one more
Day of life.

I guess he did have
Ambition after-all.
A desire to be alive.

That's a hell-of-a-lot
More ambition than most.
