Judgement Day Poem by Charles M Moore

Judgement Day

Rating: 4.0

When you wake up in the morning
and your lips are feeling dry
and you dreamt you had a warning
for the life that you live by
and you feel the fire raging
and you hear the furnace roar
as the flames begin to lick your face
it's hell you stand before

How you wish that you had married
how you wish you had a child
how you wish that you had been so good
instead of running wild
how the nightmare you are living
would just somehow go away
don't you cry before the devil
can't you see it's judgement day

In his claws he holds the memories
of everything you've done
as you're standing there before him
he recounts them one by one
as the list keeps getting longer
it's too late to beg or pray
don't you cry before the devil
can't you see it's judgement day

Then you hear a starling singing
and you thought you saw a light
and the devil's face is smiling
and the fire's not so bright
as your eyes begin to open
and confusion swings and sways
you realise you're dreaming
but remember judgement day

So take care in what you're doing
and repent for what you've done
in life you may think this is great
but death adds up the sum
don't throw away your feathers
and dance the horny trail
you know who's there to greet you
and remember judgement day.
