Just The Wind Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

Just The Wind

I hear a tapping from the wind
A voice so soft asks, 'let me in'
Let me in, Oh let me in
I am the wind, please let me in

As the blankets covered above my head
With a shaking tone I spoke from there within
Are you a Ghost or just the wind
It matters not, I won't let you in

Again, came a tapping on the window pane
As the voice continued to ask the same
Let me in, please let me in
Don't be afraid, I'll be your friend

Dear child, I swear I am not a ghost
I only ask for you to be my host
I must get warm, so let me in
If I don't get warm Spring won't begin

For a moment the fear had left my heart
And from the bed and through the dark
I rushed to let my dear friend, in
What harm could come, it's just the wind

As time goes by I'm still the host
To not the wind, or of a ghost
Just a child's story told once again
Of how to never let; A stranger in
