Kept To Oneself Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Kept To Oneself

Becoming aware,
Is a difference made.
That permanently changes everything.
A clarity so clear,
Makes explanations unnecessary.
And experiences to have had,
To not understand when they happen...
Bombarded one's mind to have each understood.
Yet...
Awareness to have it to know it had,
Is not all that.
Since there are times,
Those unaware of what they say and do...
Seem to later make excuses for it.
And the one listening,
To have become aware.
Remembers those same excuses to wish,
They had been more creative...
When they also used them.
And this makes becoming aware,
More of a challenge to test one's patience.
Especially when it is clear,
Who is the one outnumbered.
Forced to stay tolerant.
Considerate.
And smile.
To wait when alone to scream.
With all that awareness,
Kept to oneself.
Not to have to explain.
