Howling wolf awakened me
In the middle of the night
Wolfing down my soulless heart
Satan feeding his damned soul

Vivid imagery and a vision of Kerouac's soul. Fantastic verse, Richard. For some reason, it made me dimmediately think of The Subterraneans.

2) cont'd: In spite of the racism that still exists to this day, if that film was made today, there would be no problem in accurately portraying his African love interest. Maybe Netflix will do just that!

Thx so very much, M.J.! Very insightful, my friend. Lots of controversy over both the novella and the film. Hollywood didn't have the guts to properly produce that film i.e. they substituted a white woman for the African love interest.
