Les bateaux a voiles
l'eau argentee
les cristaux du sel
sur ses cils
Tout le monde
soudain et brillant
au moment avant que Dieu
vous a tourne en dedans

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is a lovely beach scene in which there are sailboats, silver-coloured water and a girl with salt crystals on her eyelashes: that is, before God made you think inwardly and your mind took over from the senses. There is no punctuation here, and Cohen spells 'God' as
'G-d'-always. A brief but dazzling lyric, I think.

A great portrayal of a beach scene and a girl 'with salt crystals on her eyelashes'. The philosophical tinge of the poem is quite impressive. Poet's Notes are very helpful. Thanks.
