Au passe quand la terre etait nouvelle
et le ciel un simple chuchotement,
au passe quand les noms des choses
n'avaient pas le temps de rester;

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
See Poem Hunter/ R. Dove/ poems/24/31.
This is a poem about Rita Dove'sbeginnings and later success as a poet. She looks back into the past, 'when the smallest breezes/ melted summer into autumn', and she answered the call of the world. She was a colorful writer, 'pirouette and flourish', but she could not count her blessings when she didn't know their names. Everything was still in the future back then, but there was plenty of good luck around;
she delivered to the world as a writer, and the world followed her to success.
A writer needs a wide readership in order to gain confidence and succeed, going from strength to strength. Such has been the career of Rita Dove.

In the past when the earth was new and the sky a mere whisper the powerful glance was glazed with fixed breeze. An excellent poem is very beautifully penned. This translation is perfect translation. Thanks for sharing this poem...10
