Let Me Not Be You Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Let Me Not Be You

Rating: 4.8

Let me not be you
let me not be a person of obsolete dreams
let me not be a person of unending greed
let me not be a person of foolish fantasy
let me not be a person of utter selfishness
let me just be who I am.

Let me be the sunshine amidst the dark clouds
let me be the red color of the rose
let me be the petal of politeness
let me be the challenger in the ring
let me be the angel with the wings
let me just be who I am.

Let me be the proud peacock in the forest
let me be the roaring lion in the jungle
let me be the waterfall atop a mountain
let me be the fish at the bottom of the ocean
let me be the human being on this earth
let me just be who I am.

Let me breathe the air that is fresh
let me drink the water that is clean
let me share my generosity with those who need it
let me show compassion to those who are worthy
let me take the days of my life to a good ending
let me just be who I am.

Let me be the poor or rich
let me have what belongs to me
let me teach others of tolerance and forgiveness
let me learn from others of comfort and consolation
let me churn simultaneously joy and satisfaction
let me just be who I am.

Let me prepare to walk over the bridge with blessings
let me never hold any sins of remorse,
let me be free of regrets and hatred
let me live smiling and grateful
let me find God in everything I do
let God find me ultimately and grant me heaven
let me just be who I am and not you.
