Life Poem by Walterrean Salley

Life

Rating: 3.9

Life’s canvas is set
And primed with every hue:
Red, purple, salmon,
gray, green, blue.

In its outline, there is
Direction, intention and goal.

Purpose and reason lay
Within its countless themes.

Perspectively,
In the foreground of the canvas,
Are things dearest to us.
And in the middle ground
Are mediocre things.
But in the background,
Are those things far removed.

And then, there is the
Overlapping of events:
Such as joy and sorrow,
Victory and defeat.

Life has its different strokes.
Soft edges encourage us.
Meanwhile, the hard edges—
Well, that’s a different story.

But then, that’s life in all of
Its sunshine and shadows.
