I never had a pet.
One day on my return home from work,
A stray cat came near me and mewed
Till I looked at her.
I couldn't but cast a compassionate look,
When she lay down at my feet
And kept on mewing.
She was not clean, yet I patted her.
So many years after...
One day I fondly remembered that cat,
And oh! How wishfully I longed to be
That cat, that mewed for love and purred.

Cats have been always a fascination for me, but am never allowed to keep one as a pet as my husband is very much averse to them! They are so lovable and crave to be touched and fondled! I can understand the cat instinct in you! Really enjoyed the comparison to the cat!
Thanks for your reading, Valsa. Glad that you saw the 'cat instinct' in me. Best wishes....

I would like to translate this poem
maybe " laid" , not " lay" ? tenses of lie and lay trip up a lot of people, including me at times! i especially enjoyed the last stanza. perhaps 'you' still have the opportunity to lie down (e.g. in a shop doorway) and mew for love at passersby? if you hold a paper cup between your 'paws' you may at least get petted on the head and have a coin dropped into your cup. to MyPoemList bri :)
Thanks for taking this poem of mine to your 'MyPoemList; , Brian. Appreciate your comment.
