Lit The World Poem by Hasan Haskovic

Lit The World

You whispered away your promise
Silently, so the wind might steal it away
And that your given word
Would be lost in the breeze

But I read your lips
Zeal imprinted in their surface
I read your gaze
I knew it all
That behind your disbelief
Lied a certainty unshaken
I felt the graze
Made by your reluctance
Your disloyalty
The grimace behind the promise
You'll come and look for me

Ever since I walked away
I've been leaving trails
So that you may follow me
Through the empty cells
So narrow through the burned bridges
And avoid the devils the grasp
Behind the iron curtain
You'll find me

I've been leaving trails
Lit candles and placed torches
Brought stars down to the Earth
But it didn't seem to be enough
To attract your eyes

So I let out the fire in my soul
Let it encompass the world
Let the blazing hell fire
Disperse the night and clarify your burden
So that you may be drawn by the light
Turned mountains into towers
Of twirling dust
Just for you to see
What I'd do for you to come to me

But the inferno didn't warm your heart
The scorching skies didn't meet your gaze
You only waited for the rain to come
To erase this blaze
To turn fires into dust
That'd break us off
That'd cover my steps
You gazed aloft
And begged the skies
To hide your insolence
So you had a excuse
For never coming to my depths

In my naive attempts
To remind you
I've set the world on fire
I've turned the skies into a pyre
Brought Hell to earth
So you'd wish for Heaven
But you never saw
And you never wondered
If the first spark
Came from my heart

Days have passed
The fire had died, put out by the rain
And I've disappeared
Under arson amassed

You don't need to come look for me
Anymore
