Living In Dream Castles Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Living In Dream Castles

Too old to dream,
Of course not as dreams have no age limit
In the realm where contentment or discontent
Live, raw and unafraid we are never to old to dream.
My most urgent dream at this time is to publish another
Children's book of poetry and one more book of life poems.
Am I too old to dream? I think not!

Here he is again, wrapping me in love's warmest
Embrace yet in the dream when he kisses me, my lips
Are wet with tears, even in dreams death's good-bye lingers.
Yet, I dream for hours in youthful stumbling,
Sometime so happy, often with my lover in a past life
Determined to bring me endless joy.
Sometimes in dreams I am roaming streets where I once lived,
In distant places, walking in the snow, or driving around
On tireless wheels.

I often dream I am singing to children and sharing stories with them or
Reciting poetry to large crowds and when being
called on stage to deliver some awesome trilogy I found I have forgotten
the words, the curtain closes and I am suddenly awake.

I dream of the promised paradise to the meek who shall inherite the earth,
And to write poetry in God's new kingdom.
There will be no peace until then as man cannot even guide his own steps,
How then can he lead a nation of people.

Too old to dream, asleep or awake, I spend a lot of time "on the avenues of dreams"
Making plans to do some new thing...play the guitar, paint another blue ribbon masterpiece,
Or just to live as long as possible in this peaceful haven my love and I call home.
