Lone Small Tree Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Lone Small Tree

One lone, small tree standing in the sunlight in
front of a wall, it's shadow crawling over limbs
bending to get over it.

Stretching and enjoying the little bit of freedom
being afforded it.

What a marvelous poem! It's not a haiku technically but it has the virtues that make the haiku so popular, that is, the poet limits the length and faces the challenge of expressing herself concisely in a striking image. You have that striking image in the tree sending out a branch over the confining wall to touch the free air beyond it. It's a sma; ; triumph on the tree's part just as this haiku-like poem is a small challenge for you. This poem refreshes in its honst simplicity.
