Long Long Distance Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Long Long Distance

LONG LONG DISTANCE

the phone calls I never made
but should have

(too little time)

I make them now

(too much time)

sans telephone
sans voice
sans reality

but my prayers
fall back from

a Heaven that isn't
there

'Hello...hello..? '
I cry inside my head

and from somewhere
I hear you say

'Shhhhhhh.....shhhhhhhhh! '

maybe just static
maybe just longing

the words...

breaking...

....up.

The economic language and its drawn wisp like form has delivered with a kind precision these gentle musings.
