Losing You Every Time - Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Capturing moments of memories, letting my mind re-
live them, just wanting to be with you in some way,
it matters not how.

Your image is all I crave, yet your face is fading
daily, your voice has become just a whisper once in
a while.

Your love cannot be felt anymore physically, just my
heart is aching agonizingly, because you are not here
with me.

Heart being touched only by the sorrow of your missing
love in this life, it's tears tearing me apart.

Wanting to hold onto you forever, yet time is stretching
ever farther from you my love.

This mind unable to hold onto the vision of your beauty,
now looking at you in pictures only, no life or love to
give me any longer.

My heart breaking daily, one moment after another, losing
you every time your image disappears from my sight in a
mirage of misty, silent sorrow.

This is a wrenching poem. It was emotionally painful to write, I'm sure, but this pain is the other side of the joy of love
and so it also asserts the wonder of love. There is a fierce concentration on the image of the beloved because the beloved's presence is no longer guaranteed. I recall a 60s song: IF YOU CANT BE WITH THE ONE YOU LOVE, LOVE THE ONE YOURE WITH. What an unworthy view of love! As if lovers are interchangeable. Your poem asserts the truth of love in all of its rigor and fidelity - yes, fidelity is at the heart of your poem - and this is how love makes us better human beings. Despite the pain, this poem is triumphant!
