Lost Poem by Paul Butters

Lost

Lost within the singularity of my mind
Things smaller than quarks
Form mini solar systems
Of atomic nuclei suns
Orbited by electron planets.
As I widen my scope I see
Molecules and viruses.
Then bacterial Life!
Next, see tiny insects,
Mice.

Microscopic slides give way
To sweeping plains
Soaring mountains
And horizon-hugging oceans.
The Earth:
A tiny pea
Against the splendid rings of Saturn
And Jupiter’s majesty.
An insignificant solar system
On the outskirts of The Milky Way.
Our galaxy: part of a minor cluster
In a Universe of countless galaxy groups.
Swirls of nebulae and stars.
Perhaps a Multiverse
Of Parallels.
Infinite possibilities,
Alternative Realms,
Dimensions.
Countless versions of myself
Playing out a trillion dramas.
I’m a King somewhere.

A vast Existence
All Created
By that Force or Forces
We call God.
