Love hits hard in the face,
Leaving no apparent trace
On the surface.
But deep inside,
The turmoil of the tide
Is so flagrant
It shakes the soul
Off its somnolence.
Love never sleeps at all;
It keeps the heart pounding
Night out, day in
Till the deed is done.
Love cuts deep in the flesh
Keeps the wound afresh
Long after departing.
Love is a blessed curse
Fortunate few can be nursed
In its burning breast.
Love is a damned blessing
Hordes and hordes chase it
But the final purchase is
Deceit, lies and failings.
Love hits hard in the face
Never slows down the pace
Keeps on grossing up the list
Of victims; the reluctant and the willing.
