Loving The Misrepresentation Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Loving The Misrepresentation

Being controversial,
Does have its perks.
Especially,
For one in the performing arts.
When many thirst,
For free publicity to get.
Then maneuver through,
Every aspect of this process.
With a taking each step,
In directions no one expects.
Not to prove one has talent.
But a gift to remain,
Current.
And a chamillion.
Capable to change,
With the every changing times.
Done to do,
Loving the misrepresentation.
People find difficult to define.
Using limits that restrict,
Their minds to outdated beliefs.
As to what,
It is a performing artist does.
Not to know,
What a performing of art means.
Or originality to create it.
Too innovative to label.
Until critics decide,
Misrepresenting to present...
An intelligent description.
That makes no sense at all.
Leaving that artist,
Who performs what he or she...
Does to do,
The benefactor of priceless...
To maintain and sustain,
Breath taking controversy.

'Oh...
I hated every minute,
What it was you presented.
But found I could not resist,
Complaining...
About what you did,
That stays on my mind.
How on Earth did you do that? '

-Improvisational agitation.
And my love to irritate,
Those who masquerade...
Impressions to make,
While presenting pretensions.-

'Even though,
I was the only one...
Giving you a standing ovation.
I felt your performance,
Had been directed right at me.
If that is not talent,
I don't know what is.'

-I am often told,
I have the gift of observation.-

'You got me on my feet.
I know that.
Like a preacher,
Heating up seats from a pulpit! '
