Lunch After Love Poem by Colette Dright

Lunch After Love

Rating: 5.0

As we sit here eating talking about life's lessons
And all that was taught
We laugh about the box and bottle
And the puppy that he bought
Hide your food in the microwave before it gets sold
Are one of the many, funny stories that is told

But what do you do when the sex and love and feelings are gone
When the one who lost it still lingers on

I look at peace around the world
He looks at me wishing I was still his girl
I can talk and talk throughout the day
Yet he can't really get out the words to say

I really like the way we laugh a bunch
So what's wrong with breakfast, dinner or lunch?

Sitting down chilling is really cool
Cause there's nothing different about this dude
What we had was us just doing our thing
We ended up separated without a wedding ring

I'm focused now on the man I'm with
But he is still jealous, just a lil bit
He has a good woman in his life
I told him to move on and do what's right

He is part of my past that has made me stronger
For this relationship has endured its course
And we are no longer

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written about a guy I used to date who didn't appreciate what he had when he had it. When he realized he had truly lost me and it was over, there was NOTHING he could say or do. Once I'm done, I'm done! With that being said, I was cool. It was no problem for me for us to be friends or have lunch, because it would never be nothing more, but it was sooo hard for him... Oh well
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Rajnish Manga 26 March 2018

The narrative speaks volumes about the psychology (or the chemistry) of a man-woman relationship. It is a two-way street with mutual understanding and accommodation at its core. Thanks, Colette.
