Man’s Misuse Of Power, Religion And Politics Poem by Bala Singelee

Man’s Misuse Of Power, Religion And Politics

Man’s misuse of Power, Religion and Politics

I once looked at those children in the school play ground.
They appeared so innocent, happy, laughing and hugging each other.

Though belonging to different faiths, religious and ethnic groups.
They grew up together and often seen at each other’s birthday parties.

But they as they grew older, our society - Man changed them
The notion of power, religion and politics brought the change.

Man’s lust for power often creates divisions in the world
And Man politicise these divisions to achieve his goal.

These divisions turn man towards religions and politics
Religions in turn creates further hatred among men.

Now Man uses religions and hatred to achieve his objective -
Which is nothing but political power in one man’s hand?

Man as politician thinking he is right leads his country to war.
Men in the armed forces has no choice but fight the politician’s war.

War then brings misery, destructions and casualties of war -
Civilians, the aged, men, women, children and armed forces personnel.

What’s left is utter destruction of a once beautiful country,
Brought down to its knees with no infrastructure, and no economy.

With a decimated or displaced population where the innocent
Often maimed, left without shelter, food and medicine,

Were it not for the different volunteer organisations
It would be a living hell for those left alive with uncertain future.

The valiant armed forces personnel, traumatised and disabled
Are left with little or no help, to their undeserved fate,

There is not a day that goes by when we do not hear
About the atrocities of war in one corner of the world or other.

Why can’t we forget our differences, think of each other as equal,
No politics but belonging to one religion – the religion of mankind?

Perhaps it may take an invasion from an alien world
To bring Man to his senses and fight for its existence

Where the notion of power, religion and politics
Will all be forgotten in order to preserve mankind.
