Maya Poem by Om Chawla

Maya

Rating: 4.5

Beauty charm elegance grace
Like water in the desert dissipate
All is transient all do fade.
Flimsy passions do they raise.
Inflamed desires do pleasure crave.
Gratifying is the moment of capitulation:
Satiety vanishes with the transient moment:
Consummation fails to saturate;
Instead desires it accentuates;
Thirst for pleasure it aggravates.

With millions that you might amass;
Means of comfort you might have;
More you seek, more you have;
Still satiation remains beyond your grasp.
Defunct and barren is urges fulfilment:
Brittle and momentary is sensual enjoyment:
On sands of time it leaves no imprint.

Lofty heights might be an achievement;
Delusive is the sense of attainment;
Thirsty soul remains unquenched.
Illusion of reality crumbles in final hour,
Life that emerged from non-being
Wades through the web of illusions to its unbeing.
All is Maya and is left behind.
Life a transience:
A journey through web of illusions;
MAYA AN ENTICING WEB OF ILLUSIONS.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Maya oft referred to in Hindu spiritual thought variously means as worldly wealth &/or that what seems but is not, thus giving false impression by projecting unreal as real; &/or that what appeals to senses, attracts and entices into belief of providing lasting pleasure and happiness but is impermanent, temporary transient and beyond grasp. Even world in ultimate analysis is viewed as unreal- a web of illusory attractions in which soul is caught.
Through cultivating the quality of goodness the soul may rise to the transcendence and escape the clutches of MAYA.

All is Maya and is left behind. Life a transience: A journey through web of illusions; ...... Yes, wealth, popularity, fitmrnts or any worldly attractive things and attachement are illusions or Maya. We should be above these illusions for peace. So nicely and aptly envisioned and presented. Thanks for sharing.....10

As human beings, we are often caught in the web of illusions and Maya enslaves us into increasing desires that can never be satiated! The more we get, for more we crave. Our craving may be for wealth, power, popularity or similar material gains! But it is like getting into a marsh.... the greater we try to take our feet out of it, the deeper we plunge! Only through great discipline and self restraint that we can escape the tentacles of Maya! A very profound philosophical write! Great diction!
