Mentalities Made Crazed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Mentalities Made Crazed

As we sit inside,
The comfort of our homes.
Feeling protected.
Yet made suspicious,
Of all that is...
That could upset how we live.
Fearing the most latest threat.
And scared to death,
Of a virus.
A virus we have been warned,
Is sneaking around.
Close and near our doorsteps.
Making 'paranoia',
An acceptable process.
Let us just for a moment,
Consider the trees!

Yes!
The trees.
You know,
Those trees outside.
Supplying the air we breathe.
And how about the particles of dust.
Floating in the air no one sees.
Dust created by all that dies.
Including us. You and me.
From where does this,
Begins to start?
Could it be Earth?
You know,
That 'thing' we inhabit.
Spins and rotates.
Around a star we call Sun.
Yeah.
That's the one.
So massive millions of Earths,
Could fit within its circumference.

And...
As we sit inside the comfort,
Of our homes.
Scrutinizing everything we touch.
From the food we eat.
And precious things we love so much.
Collecting dust.
While some choose to wear masks,
Doing the best they can to rest.
Hoping to get that peaceful sleep.
But after disinfecting,
Every inch of space a virus could creep.
With chemicals man-made.
Who is it that prays to God,
To eliminate their fears to say...
"Please God.
I can imagine You might be,
Quite busy these days.
However...
Is it possible Dear God,
When time permits...
You can free and release us,
From our crazed mentalities?
Amen."
